## Geographic presence

Ackermans & van Haaren’s geographic footprint spans Belgium and international markets through its portfolio companies. Delen Private Bank operates in Belgium and the Netherlands, with offices in Luxembourg and Switzerland; JM Finn gives the group a presence in the UK. SIPEF’s palm-oil operations include plantations and mills in Indonesia and Papua New Guinea. These examples describe disclosed operating locations, not an exhaustive list of the group’s activities. [22](https://app.finbar.com/go?id=P112819955)[23](https://app.finbar.com/go?id=P68666488)[24](https://app.finbar.com/go?id=P122488507)

The FY2025 reporting materials provide group and segment figures but no consolidated revenue breakdown by country or region. AvH itself reported 52 employees: 47 in Belgium, 1 in the DACH region, and 4 in India and Southeast Asia. Its listed office address is Begijnenvest 113, 2000 Antwerp, Belgium. ## Business segments

Ackermans & van Haaren reports five business segments. The percentages below show each segment’s approximate share of 2025 profit attributable to the AvH group (€592.5 million total); 2025 revenue shares are included for context. [28](https://app.finbar.com/go?id=T726541)

Marine Engineering & Contracting, comprising DEME Group and CFE’s marine engineering, contracting and construction-related activities, generated €241.9 million of group-share profit (about 40.8%) and €5,328.6 million of revenue (about 89.4%). Private Banking, centred on Delen Private Bank and Bank Van Breda, contributed €287.4 million of group-share profit (about 48.5%) and €415.1 million of revenue (about 7.0%). [28](https://app.finbar.com/go?id=T726541)[29](https://app.finbar.com/go?id=P103232938)[30](https://app.finbar.com/go?id=P67797851)

Real Estate contributed €23.5 million of group-share profit (about 4.0%) and €124.5 million of revenue (about 2.1%). Energy & Resources, including SIPEF, Verdant Bioscience and Sagar Cements, contributed €41.3 million of group-share profit (about 7.0%) and €0.5 million of revenue (less than 0.01%). AvH & Growth Capital recorded a group-share loss of €1.5 million (about −0.3%) and revenue of €95.5 million (about 1.6%). [28](https://app.finbar.com/go?id=T726541)[31](https://app.finbar.com/go?id=P106085799)

Revenue shares are approximate and can be affected by inter-segment eliminations; banking revenue is also not directly comparable with revenue from industrial businesses. The 2025 group reporting uses these five categories and does not provide a finer group-level profit contribution breakdown by portfolio company. [28](https://app.finbar.com/go?id=T726541)

## Company history

Founded in 1876 in Kerkdriel, Netherlands, by contractor Nicolaas van Haaren and engineer Hendrik Willem Ackermans, the company began with dredging and infrastructure work. In 1924, it became a public limited company. [32](https://www.avh150.be/en/all-stories/main-story)[33](https://www.avh150.be/en/all-stories/nv-sa)

AvH’s shares were listed in Brussels and Antwerp in 1984. It broadened its activities through investments including Belcofi–Delen in 1992, SIPEF in 1997 and Bank J. Van Breda & C° in 1998. [34](https://www.avh150.be/en/all-stories/ipo)[35](https://www.avh.be/en/about/our-investment-history)

In 1974, AvH and CFE combined their dredging operations to form Dredging International, part of the lineage of DEME. In 2013, CFE acquired exclusive control of DEME, while AvH became CFE’s majority shareholder. Luc Bertrand, who joined AvH’s board in 1985 and led its Executive Committee from 1990 to 2016, later became non-executive chair.
