## Overview

Aker ASA is a Norwegian industrial investment company that actively owns and develops listed and unlisted businesses, drawing on industrial and operational expertise to create long-term value. Its portfolio spans energy, digitalization and AI infrastructure, real estate, and marine biotechnology; its 2025 reporting groups investments as listed and unlisted equity investments. Aker’s roots date to 1841, and its portfolio gives it an international footprint across multiple industries and markets. In 2025, Aker ASA had 46 employees; Aker and companies where it was the largest owner together reported more than NOK 200 billion in turnover and approximately 30,900 employees across 33 countries. These broader scale figures refer to the portfolio-company group, not Aker ASA alone. ## Geographic presence

As of 4 October 2026, Aker ASA’s latest available reporting is for the first half of 2026; the geographic portfolio and employee figures below are from its FY2025 reporting. Its portfolio companies operate across Europe, Asia Pacific, Latin America, Africa and North America. Reported examples include Aker BP’s activity on the Norwegian Continental Shelf and Solstad Maritime’s markets in Brazil, the North Sea, Southeast Asia, Australia and West Africa. These are operating geographies, not regional revenue shares. [16](https://app.finbar.com/go?id=P140330616)[17](https://app.finbar.com/go?id=T3520640)[18](https://app.finbar.com/go?id=T4040808)

At FY2025 year-end, Aker reported 2,891 employees: 1,367 in Norway, 133 in the EU, 359 in North America, 61 in South America, 711 in Asia and 260 in other regions—approximately 47%, 5%, 12%, 2%, 25% and 9% of the total, respectively. [19](https://app.finbar.com/go?id=T8712861) Aker’s head office is in Fornebu, outside Oslo; its 2025 general-meeting minutes list an office address in Lysaker, Norway. [18](https://app.finbar.com/go?id=T4040808)[20](https://app.finbar.com/go?id=T12264006)

The reviewed reporting does not provide a consolidated country- or region-level revenue split. It states that operational revenues and segment assets are assigned according to the geographic location of companies, which does not establish customer-location revenue shares. ## Business segments

In its 2026 first-half reporting, Aker ASA identifies two formal segments: **Listed equity investments**, comprising ownership interests in publicly listed companies, and **Unlisted equity investments**, comprising interests in privately held companies. The company says its segment reporting changed in 2025 from “Industrial Holdings” and “Financial Investments” to these two categories. Listed holdings included Aker BP, Aker BioMarine, Aker Solutions and Solstad Maritime; unlisted holdings included Nscale, Cognite, Aker Property Group and Aker Qrill Company. [2](https://app.finbar.com/go?id=P140330638)[24](https://app.finbar.com/go?id=P140330547)[25](https://app.finbar.com/go?id=P140330550)

For the six months ended 30 June 2026, listed investments accounted for NOK 4,511 million, or approximately 16% of the group’s NOK 27,971 million operating income; unlisted investments contributed NOK 23,460 million, or approximately 84%. These figures are reported operating income rather than a straightforward recurring-revenue mix: the unlisted figure includes substantial gains on sales and other items. [26](https://app.finbar.com/go?id=T16044585) Separately, Aker’s portfolio/NAV presentation includes **Other assets and cash**—including cash, interest-bearing assets, fixed assets and other assets—which represented about 2% of gross assets at period end; this is an additional portfolio category, not one of the two formal segments. ## Company history

Aker traces its industrial origins to Akers Mekaniske Verksted, founded in Oslo in 1841 by naval officer Peter S. Steenstrup; Fred. Olsen & Co became the workshop’s main owner in 1916. Aker’s later development included a merger with Norcem in 1987 and, in 2002, Aker Maritime’s acquisition of Kværner and combination of their oil-and-gas businesses as Aker Kværner. [29](https://www.akerasa.com/about/history) [30](https://www.akerasa.com/~/media/Files/A/aker-corp/documents/sustainability/sustainability-report/policies/archive/corporate-responsibility-report-2015.pdf) [31](https://ec.europa.eu/competition/mergers/cases/decisions/m2683_en.pdf)

Aker ASA returned to the Oslo Stock Exchange on 8 September 2004. In 2009, Øyvind Eriksen became president and CEO as the company announced a restructuring of its holdings. Aker subsequently helped establish Aker BP through the 2016 combination of Det norske oljeselskap and BP Norge, launched Aker Horizons in 2020 to develop decarbonization and green-industry businesses, and saw Aker BP merge with Lundin Energy’s Norwegian oil-and-gas business in 2022.
