## Business segments

CCB’s formal operating-segment disclosure is geographic, based on the locations of its first-tier branches and, in some regions, subsidiaries—not a breakdown by banking product or customer type. The same eight segments are reported in the 2025 annual report and the 2026 interim report. [21](https://app.finbar.com/go?id=P161375799)[22](https://app.finbar.com/go?id=P161375807)[16](https://app.finbar.com/go?id=T18765791)

The mainland segments cover: Yangtze River Delta—Shanghai, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Ningbo and Suzhou; Pearl River Delta—Guangdong, Shenzhen, Fujian and Xiamen; Bohai Rim—Beijing, Shandong, Tianjin, Hebei and Qingdao; Central—Shanxi, Hubei, Henan, Hunan, Jiangxi, Hainan and Anhui; Western—Sichuan, Chongqing, Guizhou, Yunnan, Tibet, Inner Mongolia, Shaanxi, Gansu, Qinghai, Ningxia, Guangxi and Xinjiang; and Northeast—Liaoning, Jilin, Heilongjiang and Dalian. The other reported segments are Head Office and Overseas. [23](https://app.finbar.com/go?id=P161375800)[24](https://app.finbar.com/go?id=P161375801)[25](https://app.finbar.com/go?id=P161375802)[26](https://app.finbar.com/go?id=P161375803)[27](https://app.finbar.com/go?id=P161375804)[28](https://app.finbar.com/go?id=P161375805)[29](https://app.finbar.com/go?id=P141558706)

For FY2025, approximate shares of geographic-segment income / profit before tax were: Yangtze River Delta 17% / 18%; Pearl River Delta 13% / 10%; Bohai Rim 16% / 17%; Central 15% / 14%; Western 16% / 13%; Northeast 4% / 4%; Head Office 17% / 20%; and Overseas 3% / 4%. These are calculated from the reported segment totals and rounded; Head Office is a separately reported segment rather than a regional branch footprint. [30](https://app.finbar.com/go?id=T16182738)

## Company history

China Construction Bank was founded in 1954 as the People’s Construction Bank of China, a state-owned institution under the Ministry of Finance. In 1979 it became a financial institution directly under the State Council, and in 1994 it shifted toward full-service commercial banking after policy-lending functions were transferred to China Development Bank. It adopted the name China Construction Bank in 1996. [4](https://www.ccb.com/en/newinvestor/history.html)

In September 2004, the bank was separated from its predecessor and incorporated as China Construction Bank Corporation, a joint-stock commercial bank. Bank of America agreed to make a strategic investment in 2005, the year CCB listed H-shares in Hong Kong; it listed A-shares in Shanghai in 2007. CCB expanded internationally through the 2006 acquisition of Bank of America (Asia), followed by the opening of a London subsidiary and its first U.S. branch in 2009. In 2014 it completed the acquisition of a 72% stake in Brazil’s BICBANCO, its first acquisition in Latin America.
