## Company history

Resona’s origins include Osaka Nomura Bank, established in 1918 and renamed Daiwa Bank in 1948. In 2000, Bank of Kinki and Bank of Osaka merged to form Kinki Osaka Bank. Daiwa Bank Holdings was established on December 12, 2001, bringing Daiwa Bank, Kinki Osaka Bank and Nara Bank under a holding company; Asahi Bank joined as a wholly owned subsidiary in March 2002. The holding company adopted the name Resona Holdings, Inc. on October 1, 2002. [4](https://www.resona-gr.co.jp/holdings/english/about/outline/history/index.html) [26](https://www.resona-gr.co.jp/holdings/english/newsrelease/pdf/011212.pdf) [27](https://www.resona-gr.co.jp/holdings/english/newsrelease/pdf/020301_1a.pdf)

In 2003, a reorganization of Daiwa Bank and Asahi Bank established Resona Bank and Saitama Resona Bank. That July, Resona issued shares to Japan’s Deposit Insurance Corporation as part of a major recapitalization; the shares were fully repaid in 2014. [4](https://www.resona-gr.co.jp/holdings/english/about/outline/history/index.html) In 2017–18, Resona transferred Kinki Osaka Bank to Kansai Mirai Financial Group, whose integration of Kinki Osaka Bank, Kansai Urban Banking and Minato Bank was completed in April 2018. Kansai Urban Banking and Kinki Osaka Bank merged to form Kansai Mirai Bank in April 2019. On April 1, 2024, Resona Holdings completed its merger with Kansai Mirai Financial Group.
