Its corporate predecessor, DeVry Inc., was formed in 1987 through the merger of DeVry Institute of Technology and Keller Graduate School of Management, and became publicly held in 1991.[37][38] From 2003 onward, the company expanded into health education through acquisitions including Ross University, Deaconess College of Nursing—which became Chamberlain College of Nursing in 2006—and the American University of the Caribbean in 2011.[38][39]

The company changed its name from DeVry Inc. to DeVry Education Group in 2013, acquired a controlling interest in Brazil’s Grupo Ibmec in 2015, and became Adtalem Global Education in 2017; Lisa Wardell became president and CEO in 2016.[40] In 2018 it divested DeVry University and Carrington College, followed by the sale of its Brazilian operations in 2020.[44][45] Adtalem acquired Walden University in 2021 and sold its Financial Services segment in 2022.[46][47] In February 2026, the company changed its legal name to Covista Inc.[48] [37]
