Overview
AECOM is a global infrastructure consulting and professional services firm, providing advisory, planning, design, engineering and program and construction management services to public- and private-sector clients. Its work spans transportation, buildings and facilities, water, environment and energy.[1] The company’s stated purpose is “Delivering a better world,” with an emphasis on creating positive, sustainable impacts for communities and the planet.[2]
AECOM serves clients across the Americas—including the United States, Canada and Latin America—and internationally across Europe, India, the Middle East and Africa, Asia, Australia and New Zealand.[3] It reports three segments: Americas, International and AECOM Capital.[3] AECOM reported approximately 51,000 employees and projects in more than 150 countries; FY2025 revenue was $16.140 billion.[4][5] [1][2][3][3][4][5][2][4]
Products & services
AECOM’s offerings are primarily professional and technical services rather than manufactured products. Its work spans planning, advisory, engineering and design, environmental consulting, and program and construction management, with projects potentially extending from early planning through design and overall management of a project or multi-project program. Its water services include water supply, wastewater, and water-resource work.[6][7]
Specific service areas include drinking-water supply, wastewater treatment, flood and coastal resilience, dams and hydropower; environmental assessment, permitting, remediation, compliance, and climate adaptation; and transportation-system planning, design, and management.[8][9][10] Its engineering work also covers buildings, facilities, tunnels, and water resources, while energy services include advisory, permitting, design and engineering, and project, construction, and program management.[11][12] Program management capabilities include planning, scheduling, cost control, design, construction, commissioning, and digital solutions for major capital programs.[13]
AECOM’s company materials describe digital capabilities as part of its service delivery, but the sources reviewed do not specify named standalone products or a percentage of company performance attributable to particular products or service offerings.[14] [6][7][14][8][9][10][11][12][13]
Geographic presence
AECOM’s reported operating regions are the Americas and International, alongside AECOM Capital. The Americas segment covers the United States, Canada and Latin America; International covers Europe, India, the Middle East, Africa, Asia, Australia and New Zealand.[3]
In FY2025, revenue was $12.53 billion from the Americas (77.6% of total), $2.15 billion from Europe, Middle East, India and Africa (13.3%), and $1.46 billion from Asia-Australia-Pacific (9.0%).[15] For the nine months ended June 30, 2026, the corresponding figures were $8.52 billion (76.0%), $1.63 billion (14.5%) and $1.07 billion (9.5%), respectively.[16] These geographic revenue categories are reported as regional aggregates, not country-level breakdowns.
AECOM’s office directory lists Dallas as its global headquarters and offices including Los Angeles and Markham in the Americas; London in Europe; Abu Dhabi and Riyadh in the Middle East; Hong Kong and Singapore in Asia; Gurugram in India; and Brisbane in Australia and New Zealand.[17] The available disclosures do not give employee counts by geography. AECOM’s pension-plan disclosures identify the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia and Ireland as countries where it maintains defined-benefit plans for employees.[18] [3][15][16][18][17]
Business segments
AECOM’s FY2025 and FY2026 interim filings report three operating segments: Americas, International, and AECOM Capital (ACAP). Americas provides planning, consulting, architecture and engineering design, and construction and program management services in the United States, Canada, and Latin America. International provides advisory, consulting, design, site-supervision, and program-management services across Europe, the Middle East, India, Africa, and Asia-Pacific. The two services segments work across markets including transportation, water, government, facilities, environment, and energy; ACAP primarily invests in and develops real estate projects.[3]
By FY2025 segment revenue, Americas contributed approximately 77.6% ($12,525.9 million), International 22.4% ($3,613.2 million), and ACAP less than 0.1% ($0.5 million) of the $16,139.6 million total.[19][5] In the first nine months of FY2026, the mix was approximately 76.0% Americas ($8,521.6 million), 24.0% International ($2,696.2 million), and less than 0.1% ACAP ($0.2 million), of $11,218.0 million total; the interim filing continued to report the same three segments.[20][15]
AECOM also presents revenue geographically, dividing its International business into Europe/Middle East/India/Africa and Asia-Australia-Pacific; this is a supplemental geographic view rather than a different set of reportable segments. The FY2025 filing states adoption of updated segment-disclosure guidance did not significantly affect financial presentation.[21][22] [3][19][5][20][15][21][22]
Company history
AECOM traces its roots to predecessor firms with histories extending back more than 120 years and became an independent company in 1990 through the merger of five firms. It went public in 2007, with its shares beginning to trade on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker ACM.[23][24]
The company expanded through acquisitions including Ellerbe Becket in 2009 and Tishman Construction in 2010. Its largest transformation came with the 2014 acquisition of URS Corporation, which substantially broadened its engineering and construction businesses; in January 2015, AECOM Technology Corporation changed its legal name to AECOM.[25][26][27][28]
Leadership passed from John M. Dionisio to Michael S. Burke as CEO in 2014, and to W. Troy Rudd in 2020. That year, AECOM completed the sale of its Management Services business, which subsequently operated as the independent company Amentum.[29][30][31] [23][24][25][26][27][28][29][30][31]
