American Airlines offers air-travel products across Basic Economy, Main Cabin, Premium Economy and premium-cabin seating, including its Flagship Suite®. The company’s 2025 investor presentation described Flagship Suite rollout on Boeing 787-9 and Airbus A321XLR aircraft, with planned rollout across the 777 fleet; it also outlined aircraft-specific increases in premium seating capacity.[8][9][10] Its seat products and travel experience are described on its official pages: [11][12][13][14]
AAdvantage® is the company’s loyalty program. Members can earn miles through American and partner-airline travel, co-branded cards, and participating hotel and car-rental partners; miles can be used for travel and upgrades, as well as hotels, car rentals, cruises and other awards.[15][16] In 2025, AAdvantage members accounted for approximately 75% of premium revenue; this is a share of premium revenue, not total company revenue.[17] American also provides air-cargo services through American Airlines Cargo.[18][19]
Additional offerings include onboard Wi-Fi, which the company said is free for AAdvantage members on most aircraft, and lounge services including Flagship lounges and Admirals Club locations.[20][8][21][22] For the quarter ended June 30, 2026, passenger revenue was $15.2 billion of $16.7 billion in total operating revenue—about 91%, calculated from the reported rounded figures—while cargo revenue increased 29.7% year over year. International passenger revenue comprised Latin America ($6.444 billion), Atlantic ($6.583 billion) and Pacific ($1.415 billion). These percentages are shares of passenger revenue, not total company revenue; the company attributes passenger revenue geographically by the origin and destination of each flight segment.[26]

Business segments
American Airlines Group Inc. reports one operating segment, encompassing scheduled passenger and cargo air transportation and the AAdvantage loyalty program. The segment includes American’s domestic and international network, with service across the Americas, Europe, the Middle East, Asia, Australia and New Zealand.[25]
Regional carriers operating as American Eagle are integrated into the network and are not reported as separate segments. Management does not treat geographic regions or mainline versus regional operations as separate segments for resource allocation.[25][28] Accordingly, the single reported segment represents the company’s consolidated segment operations; the cited disclosure does not give a separate percentage of consolidated revenue by segment.[25] [25][28]
Company history
American Airlines traces its origins to a 1926 airmail flight by Robertson Aircraft Corporation between Chicago and St. Louis. Following consolidations of several carriers in 1929–30, the company became American Airlines in 1934. It introduced the Douglas DC-3 in commercial service in 1936 and began trading on the New York Stock Exchange in 1939.[29][30]
American expanded its hub network around Dallas–Fort Worth from the late 1970s, establishing a hub there in 1981 and one in Chicago in 1982. It launched its AAdvantage frequent-flyer program in 1981 and was a founding member of the oneworld alliance, which began operating in 1999. In 2001, American acquired assets of Trans World Airlines (TWA) out of bankruptcy.[29][31][32][33]
After AMR Corporation filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in 2011, AMR and US Airways agreed to combine in 2013. The merger closed on December 9, 2013, forming American Airlines Group Inc., with American Airlines as its operating airline. Robert Isom succeeded Doug Parker as CEO in March 2022.[34][35][36] [35][29][30][31][32][33][34][36]
