Company profile

APA Corp

Updated

Overview

APA Corporation is an independent energy company focused on the exploration, development, and production of crude oil, natural gas, and natural gas liquids. Its producing operations are in the United States, Egypt, and the U.K. North Sea, with exploration and development interests in other international areas, including Suriname.[1]

APA reported $7.229 billion in oil-and-gas production revenue for fiscal 2025; this is production revenue, not necessarily total consolidated revenue.[2] The company describes its purpose as responsibly helping meet the world’s oil and gas needs and has a workforce numbering in the thousands.[3][4] [1]

Products & services

APA’s principal products are crude oil, natural gas and natural gas liquids (NGLs), produced through its upstream exploration and production operations.[5]

For the first half of 2026, crude oil accounted for about 87% of oil-and-gas production revenue and 52% of production; natural gas accounted for 5% of revenue and 31% of production; and NGLs accounted for 8% of revenue and 17% of production.[6]

APA also markets and delivers production under regional sales and transport arrangements. In Egypt, substantially all 2025 natural-gas production was sold to EGPC under an agreement with a minimum realized price of $2.65 per MMBtu, while crude oil is sold to third parties for export or to EGPC for domestic demand.[9] The company also purchases and resells oil and gas to meet takeaway and pipeline commitments, including deliveries under contracts linked to international LNG prices.[10]

The cited filings do not specify crude grades, gas composition, or individual NGL product specifications.[5] [5]

Geographic presence

APA Corporation’s producing operations are concentrated in the United States, Egypt, and the North Sea. In 2025, production revenue was $3.819 billion from the United States (53%), $2.637 billion from Egypt (36%), and $773 million from the North Sea (11%). These figures are production revenue, not total consolidated revenue.[11] APA’s U.S. operations are focused on the Permian Basin, including the Midland and Delaware basins; the company describes itself as the largest acreage holder in Egypt’s Western Desert, with 7.5 million gross acres across six concessions at year-end 2025.[12]

In the first half of 2026, production revenue was $2.084 billion from the United States (52%), $1.548 billion from Egypt (39%), and $347 million from the North Sea (9%).[15] APA reports offices in Houston and Midland, Texas; Cairo, Egypt; and Aberdeen, Scotland, with its principal executive office in Houston.[16] Its 2025 year-end exploration interests also included offshore blocks in Suriname and Uruguay.[17] In Egypt, substantially all 2025 natural-gas production was sold to EGPC under a gas sales agreement.[18] [11]

Business segments

APA reports its oil-and-gas business across geographic areas: the U.S., Egypt, offshore U.K. in the North Sea, and offshore Suriname. Its segment reporting presents the U.S., Egypt, and North Sea separately, with Suriname included in “Other.” [19][20]

The U.S. segment is centered on the Permian Basin, APA’s largest production and cash-flow source.[12] Egypt’s operations focus on exploration, development, and production, with acreage concentrated in the Western Desert.[14] In the North Sea, APA’s fields are offshore in the U.K.; the company has said its focus there is safety and asset integrity as production winds down.[21]

By 2025 oil-and-gas production revenue, the U.S. contributed approximately 53%, Egypt 36%, and the North Sea 11% (calculated from reported amounts of $3.819 billion, $2.637 billion, and $773 million, respectively, out of $7.229 billion total).[2] These percentages represent production revenue by geography, not total consolidated revenue. Company history

Apache Oil Corporation was founded in Minneapolis on December 6, 1954, by Truman Anderson, Raymond Plank, and Charles Arnao. It expanded from its early exploration business through a major Powder River Basin discovery in Wyoming and listed on the New York Stock Exchange in 1969.[22]

Apache broadened its operating structure in 1971 by forming Apache Exploration Company, and in 1981 consolidated drilling partnerships into Apache Petroleum Company. It expanded internationally with the 1991 acquisition of Hadson Energy Resources, entry into Egypt in 1994, and its 2003 acquisition of a 97% working interest in the U.K. North Sea’s Forties Field.[22][23]

A series of acquisitions reshaped the company in the 2010s: Apache merged with Mariner Energy and acquired BP assets in 2010, then acquired Mobil North Sea Limited in 2012. It subsequently sold its Gulf of Mexico shelf business and Australian upstream and LNG assets, while John J. Christmann IV became president and CEO in 2015.[22]

In 2021, APA Corporation became the parent holding company, with Apache Corporation as its wholly owned operating subsidiary. APA completed its all-stock acquisition of Callon Petroleum in 2024, a transaction valued at approximately $4.5 billion including Callon debt.[27][28] [28]
