Overview

Appian Corporation is an enterprise software company focused on process automation. Its platform helps businesses and government organizations design, automate, and optimize complex processes, combining process orchestration with integrations, business rules, robotic process automation, intelligent document processing, and AI capabilities.[1]

Appian describes its mission as connecting AI to high-impact work by bringing process automation, data integration, and enterprise AI together. The company has offices across the Americas, Europe and the Middle East, and Asia-Pacific.[6][7]

For scale, Appian reported FY2025 revenue of $726.9 million and 2,149 employees at year-end 2025. It was incorporated in 1999 and began trading on Nasdaq in 2017.[8] [1]

Products & services

Appian’s core product is the Appian Platform, a process-automation platform for designing, automating, and optimizing enterprise and government workflows. Its capabilities include business-rules engines, pre-built connections and API integrations, intelligent document processing, robotic process automation, and AI.[12][13] Its patented Data Fabric provides a secure, performant way to unify and access enterprise data without requiring that data to be migrated.[14][15]

Appian offers subscription service tiers, from standard features to premium tiers that include process mining and broader AI integration.[16] Process HQ combines process mining, Data Fabric, machine learning, and generative AI to help identify process-improvement opportunities.[17] Appian also provides professional services to help customers build and deploy applications; its partners may refer subscription customers, deliver implementation services, or sell solutions built on Appian.[18]

For the six months ended June 30, 2026, Appian reported $318.0 million in subscription revenue, about 78.4% of total revenue, and $87.4 million in professional-services revenue, about 21.6%. Cloud-subscription revenue was $256.2 million, up 23.9% year over year. The company reports these revenue categories rather than revenue by individual named product.[19] [12]

Geographic presence

Appian is headquartered in McLean, Virginia, and reports operations in the United States and internationally in Australia, Canada, France, Germany, India, Italy, Japan, Mexico, the Netherlands, Portugal, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom.[22] Its listed offices include the U.S. headquarters in McLean, EMEA headquarters in London, and APAC offices in Sydney, Melbourne, and Singapore.[7]

The company does not disclose revenue by country or region, or a numerical employee breakdown by location, in the sources reviewed. Appian describes McLean as a hub for U.S. employees and says it holds most of the overall employee base.[23] Its foreign-currency exposures include the British pound, euro, Australian dollar, and Swiss franc, reflecting international revenue and expenses.[24] [22]

Business segments

Appian reports one operating and reportable segment, encompassing its business of helping organizations design, automate, and optimize business processes. This represents 100% of reported revenue; the company does not report multiple business segments.[25]

For FY2025, Appian separately disclosed revenue by category rather than as separate segments: subscriptions generated $576.462 million, approximately 79.3% of total revenue, and professional services generated $150.475 million, approximately 20.7%. Subscriptions include cloud and license subscriptions, with maintenance and support; professional services comprise consulting and training related to Appian’s platform.[8][25] [25][8]

Company history

Appian was incorporated in Delaware in August 1999. Its founders included Matt Calkins, Mike Beckley, Marc Wilson, and Bob Kramer.[26][27] The company evolved from technology consulting and portal software toward low-code applications; in 2010, it launched Appian 6 and the initial Appian Tempo release as it expanded its cloud-based business process management offering.[28][29]

In May 2017, Appian completed its initial public offering and began trading on Nasdaq under the ticker APPN.[30] In 2021, it acquired process-mining company Lana Labs, adding process mining to its low-code automation portfolio.[31][32] [26]
