AutoNation, Inc. is a U.S. automotive retailer operating franchised dealerships. Its business includes selling new and used vehicles, vehicle financing, and related services such as maintenance, repair, collision repair, and parts sales. The company reports four segments: Domestic, Import, Premium Luxury, and AutoNation Finance.[1][2]
At December 31, 2025, AutoNation had 323 new-vehicle franchises across 245 U.S. stores, predominantly in major Sunbelt metropolitan markets. Its other operations included 52 collision centers, 26 AutoNation USA used-vehicle stores, four auction operations, and three parts distribution centers.[3] For FY2025, revenue was $27.631 billion; the company’s official overview says it has more than 24,000 Associates.[4][5] [1][2][3][4][5]
Products & services
AutoNation sells new and used vehicles through its dealership franchises. Its parts and service operations provide vehicle maintenance and repair, collision repair, recall and warranty work, and customer-pay service; they also recondition used vehicles, prepare new vehicles and install accessories. AutoNationParts.com offers parts and accessories for home delivery, while wholesale parts operations serve collision shops and independent repair providers.[1][2]
Named offerings include AutoNation USA used-vehicle stores, AutoNation-branded collision centers and auctions, and One Price used-vehicle pricing and appraisal. “We’ll Buy Your Car” provides a trade-in offer honored for 7 days or 500 miles. Customer Financial Services offers extended service and maintenance contracts and other vehicle-protection products. AutoNation Express supports online purchase steps such as viewing upfront pricing, valuing a trade-in, reviewing financing, and scheduling pickup or delivery; AutoNation Mobile Service offers at-home or workplace maintenance and repair, including oil changes, brake work and diagnostics.[6][7][8][9]
For the six months ended June 30, 2026, reported revenue included $6,303.7 million from new vehicles, $3,975.2 million from used vehicles, $709.6 million from finance and insurance, net, and $2,483.9 million from parts and service. These are reported revenue amounts; the cited figures are not stated as percentage shares.[10][10][10][10] [1][2][6][10][10][10][10][10][7][8][9]
Geographic presence
AutoNation’s reported footprint is in the United States. As of December 31, 2025, it listed retail stores across 20 states and a total of 271 retail stores, 323 franchises, and 59 other locations. The states were Florida, Texas, California, Colorado, Arizona, Washington, Nevada, Georgia, Maryland, Illinois, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, North Carolina, Ohio, Alabama, New Mexico, New York, Missouri, and New Jersey.[11][12]
Reported revenue was concentrated in Florida (26%), Texas (20%), and California (19%); Colorado represented 7%, Arizona 6%, Washington and Nevada 4% each, Georgia, Maryland, and Illinois 3% each, and South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, North Carolina, and Ohio 1% each. These state percentages are rounded; the filing does not provide country-level revenue or employee distribution by geography.[11][12] [11][12]
Business segments
AutoNation, Inc. reports Domestic, Import, and Premium Luxury as its franchised-dealership segments, and AutoNation Finance as a reportable segment. Domestic covers franchises focused on Ford, General Motors, and Stellantis; Import primarily covers Toyota, Honda, Hyundai, and Subaru; Premium Luxury primarily covers Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Lexus, Audi, and Jaguar Land Rover. Each dealership segment also sells used vehicles, parts and services, and finance and insurance products.[13]
For the six months ended June 30, 2026, Domestic revenue was $3,509.7 million (about 26.0% of consolidated revenue), Import revenue was $4,281.2 million (31.8%), and Premium Luxury revenue was $5,021.2 million (37.2%). The shares use consolidated revenue of $13,481.9 million as the denominator.[14] AutoNation Finance provides indirect vehicle financing to qualifying retail customers buying from AutoNation; the segment is reported by income rather than separate segment revenue, so a revenue percentage is not available.[15]
The company also reports “Corporate and other,” which contributed $669.8 million, or about 5.0%, of consolidated revenue in the period. This category includes non-franchised AutoNation USA stores, collision centers, parts distribution centers, and auction operations, along with unallocated corporate overhead and other income items; it is not a reportable segment.[14] Separately, AutoNation presents revenue by activity—including new and used vehicle sales, finance and insurance, parts and service, and other—which is an additional breakdown rather than a separate segment structure.[10] [13][14][15][10]
Company history
AutoNation was founded in 1996 by H. Wayne Huizenga and began with 12 locations. In January 1997, Republic Industries acquired AutoNation Incorporated in a merger. Republic expanded into automotive retail, including new-car dealerships and AutoNation USA used-car megastores, and announced in 1999 that it would change its corporate name to AutoNation, Inc.[16][17][18][19]
Huizenga retired from the company in 2004. In 2021, Michael Manley became chief executive officer and a director, succeeding Mike Jackson in those roles. By 2022, AutoNation reported cumulative sales of 14 million vehicles. In June 2026, it expanded in the San Francisco Bay Area through the acquisition of three luxury dealerships.[20][21][22][16][23] [22][16][17][18][19][20][21][23]
