Overview

Avient Corporation is a specialty materials company serving customers that design, assemble, and process polymers. Its core offerings include color and additive concentrates, specialty inks and coatings, and engineered polymer materials, including high-performance polymers and thermoplastic and thermoset composites. These solutions serve markets such as packaging, healthcare, transportation, construction, consumer products, and industry.[1]

Avient describes its purpose as innovating materials solutions to help customers succeed while enabling a sustainable world. Its operations span North America, South America, Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, with 98 manufacturing sites reported for 2025 and a workforce of more than 9,000 worldwide.[4] The company reported $3.3 billion in sales for 2025.[1] Founded as PolyOne in 2000, it adopted the Avient name in 2020.[6] [1]

Products & services

Avient’s products include color and additive concentrates for thermoplastics, thermoset dispersions, specialty inks and liquid polymer systems. Additives provide functions such as UV stabilization, antimicrobial and antistatic performance, foaming, antioxidants, lubrication and oxygen or visible-light blocking; some are designed to support recyclability, reduce processing energy or enable lightweighting. Its specialty engineered materials combine thermoplastic resins or elastomers with additives, reinforcement, fillers, colorants or biomaterials. Composite options include thermoset and thermoplastic materials reinforced with glass, carbon, aramid or UHMWPE fibers.[2][3]

Named offerings include reSound™ REC thermoplastic elastomers (TPEs), with 9–83% recycled content, and reSound™ BIO TPEs, with 35–60% renewable content and formulations designed for overmolding onto polypropylene and ABS. Versaflex™ TPEs offer options such as low compression set, soft feel, clarity, wet grip, vibration damping and chemical resistance. OnForce™ is a long-glass-fiber-reinforced polypropylene composite for stiffness, impact resistance and lightweighting; Edgetek™ engineered polymer formulations can be configured with additives, reinforcement and colorants. Cesa™ Nox A4R is an antioxidant additive intended to protect polyolefins during processing and recycling, while OnColor™ includes standard or custom-matched solid color masterbatches, with options to combine color and additives.[7]

Services include color and design consultation, concept development, prototyping and sampling, as well as part analysis, design validation, process analysis and manufacturability support.[14] In FY2025, Color, Additives and Inks generated $2,034.2 million in sales—approximately 62.4% of consolidated sales—and Specialty Engineered Materials generated $1,231.3 million, approximately 37.8%; the percentages exceed 100% combined because of corporate sales eliminations.[17][18] [2]

Geographic presence

Avient reports sales across the United States and Canada, Latin America, EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa), and Asia. In 2025, sales were $1,309.3 million (40.2%) in the United States and Canada, $182.4 million (5.6%) in Latin America, $1,175.5 million (36.1%) in EMEA, and $593.0 million (18.2%) in Asia; the company reports that approximately 61% of sales were to customers outside the United States.[19][1]

Avient identifies Avon Lake, Ohio, as its headquarters and reports 98 manufacturing sites across North America, South America, Asia, Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Its listed facilities include locations in China, India, Brazil, Colombia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Singapore and Vietnam.[20][21] The company reports more than 9,000 employees worldwide; the cited company information does not provide a geographic breakdown of employees.[5] [19]

Business segments

Avient reports two business segments. **Color, Additives and Inks** makes custom color and additive concentrates, thermoset dispersions, specialty inks, and liquid polymer coatings and additives. Its offerings support functions such as UV stabilization, antimicrobial and antistatic properties, processing, and recyclability, across markets including packaging, healthcare, transportation, construction, and consumer products.[22][2] In 2025, the segment recorded $2,034.2 million in sales, approximately **62.4%** of consolidated sales of $3,260.2 million.[17]

**Specialty Engineered Materials** supplies high-performance polymer materials and solutions, including formulated thermoplastics and elastomers, and thermoset and thermoplastic composites reinforced with materials such as glass, carbon, aramid, and UHMWPE. Its applications include defense, consumer and industrial products, transportation, energy, construction, and healthcare.[22][3] In 2025, it recorded $1,231.3 million in sales, approximately **37.8%** of consolidated sales.[17] The 2025 percentages are based on segment sales divided by consolidated sales; corporate sales were negative $5.3 million.[17] The same two-segment structure is reported in the 2026 Q2 filing: for the six months ended June 30, 2026, Color, Additives and Inks contributed approximately 62.5% of consolidated sales, and Specialty Engineered Materials approximately 37.6%.[23] [22]

Company history

Avient’s roots include M.A. Hanna, founded in 1885, and B.F. Goodrich’s vinyl-plastics business, established in 1948 and spun off as The Geon Company in 1993. PolyOne was formed on August 31, 2000, by the consolidation of Geon and M.A. Hanna.[24]

From 2006, PolyOne pursued a shift toward specialty materials, adding businesses including GLS in 2008 and ColorMatrix in 2011. It acquired Spartech in 2013, and expanded internationally with an Asia Innovation Center in Shanghai in 2015.[25]

In 2020, PolyOne acquired Clariant’s global masterbatch business and changed its name to Avient Corporation. Avient completed the acquisition of DSM’s Protective Materials business, including Dyneema, in 2022. Ashish K. Khandpur became president and CEO in December 2023 and chairman in May 2025.[24] [24]
