Overview

Axogen, Inc. is a specialty medical-technology company focused on developing and commercializing products for peripheral nerve repair and regeneration. Its portfolio includes Avance nerve allografts and Axoguard nerve connectors, protectors and caps, as well as Avive+ Soft Tissue Matrix. The company describes its mission as “Making Nerve Repair an Expected Standard of Care.” [1]

Axogen sells products in the United States, Canada, Germany, the United Kingdom, Spain and other countries, with U.S. distribution the main contributor to sales. It reported $225.2 million in revenue for fiscal 2025 and had 622 employees as of December 31, 2025. Founded in 2002, the company is based in Alachua, Florida.[10] [1]

Products & services

Axogen’s products address peripheral nerve repair and protection. Avance® Nerve Graft is a processed human nerve allograft supplied frozen and sterile. It provides a three-dimensional scaffold with laminin-lined pathways and microvasculature to bridge nerve gaps without harvesting a donor nerve from the patient; the 2025 10-K lists grafts up to 70 mm long and 5 mm in diameter. Avance® (acellular nerve allograft-arwx) received FDA approval in December 2025 for specified peripheral nerve discontinuities in adults and children aged one month or older.[16]

Axogen’s Axoguard® products use porcine small-intestinal-submucosa extracellular matrix. The Nerve Connector is an open-ended tube for tensionless nerve repair, typically across gaps of 5 mm or less; listed sizes are 1.5–7 mm in diameter and 10 or 15 mm long. The Nerve Protector is a slit tube for wrapping and protecting a damaged or reconstructed nerve, with listed sizes including 2–10 mm diameters and 20- or 40-mm lengths. The Nerve Cap covers a nerve end to separate it from surrounding tissue and help reduce symptomatic neuroma development. Axoguard HA+ Nerve Protector adds a sodium-hyaluronate/sodium-alginate coating that lubricates the nerve–tissue interface when hydrated. Avive+ Soft Tissue Matrix is a multi-layer amniotic membrane allograft for temporary tissue protection and separation during healing.[21]

The company also offers clinician education and product training, local sales-representative support, and reimbursement assistance, including coding, benefits verification, prior authorization, claims and appeals resources.[34] The 2025 10-K reported that Avance Products accounted for approximately 60% of total revenue; it did not provide comparable percentages for other products.[39][40] [16]

Geographic presence

Axogen’s operations are centered in the United States, with international product sales reported in Canada, Germany, the United Kingdom, Spain, and several other countries. The company reports revenue geographically as U.S. versus international, rather than by individual country. For the six months ended June 30, 2026, U.S. revenue was $129.1 million (98.4% of total) and international revenue was $2.1 million (1.6%). For full-year 2025, the respective figures were $222.4 million (98.8%) and $2.8 million (1.2%).[41]

Axogen is headquartered in Alachua, Florida, and its 2026 second-quarter filing identifies processing, warehousing, and distribution facilities in Ohio and Texas. Its year-end 2025 facilities schedule also lists Tampa, Florida, for office, laboratory, and meeting space; Burleson, Texas, warehousing; and Vandalia and Dayton, Ohio, facilities used for manufacturing, warehousing, clean-room, and office functions.[44]

At December 31, 2025, Axogen had 622 employees: 284 in operations, 196 in sales and marketing, 120 in corporate functions, and 22 in R&D. Its filing provides this functional distribution rather than a geographic employee breakdown. The company reported 138 direct U.S. sales professionals at year-end 2025; independent sales agencies supplemented its direct sales force.[48][49] [41]

Business segments

Axogen reports one operating and reportable segment, peripheral nerve repair, which represents 100% of consolidated revenue. The company manages its business on a consolidated basis; it does not disclose revenue percentages by product line.[50][51]

Avance Nerve Graft is a processed human nerve allograft used to bridge peripheral nerve gaps. Axogen’s Axoguard product line includes products designed to support nerve reconstruction and protection, including a nerve connector, nerve protector, HA+ nerve protector, and nerve cap. These are product categories within the single reported segment, not separately reported segments.[16] [50]

Company history

Axogen was founded in Alachua, Florida, in 2002. Its Avance Nerve Graft has been marketed since 2007, and in 2009 the company launched its AxoGuard Nerve Protector and Nerve Connector in the United States. In 2010, the FDA allowed Avance to be marketed under an enforcement-discretion policy while Axogen pursued the required regulatory pathway.[15]

On September 30, 2011, publicly traded LecTec merged with privately held AxoGen Corporation, and the surviving company took the AxoGen, Inc. name. Axogen introduced Avive Soft Tissue Membrane commercially in 2016. In 2024, Michael Dale became CEO, and Axogen completed its submission of a biologics license application for Avance; the FDA approved Avance in December 2025. In October 2026, the company completed its acquisition of BioCircuit Technologies, adding NerveTape to its product portfolio.[55] [53]
