Overview

Baker Hughes Co. is an energy technology company serving the energy and industrial sectors, with operations in more than 120 countries. Its two core businesses are Oilfield Services & Equipment, which provides technologies and services for oilfield operations, and Industrial & Energy Technology, which supplies equipment, software and services for applications including LNG, pipelines, refining, hydrogen, geothermal and carbon capture.[1]

The company states its purpose is to make energy “safer, cleaner and more efficient.” [5] For the year ended December 31, 2025, Baker Hughes reported revenue of $27.733 billion and approximately 56,000 employees; its workforce spanned more than 85 countries.[6][7] [1]

Products & services

Baker Hughes’ Oilfield Services & Equipment portfolio includes drilling and well-construction products such as directional drilling, measurement- and logging-while-drilling, surface logging, drill bits with in-bit sensing, drilling fluids and waste management. Completion and intervention offerings include multistage and intelligent completions, cementing, pressure pumping, coiled tubing, tubular running, wireline logging, perforating, well workover and fishing services. Production products include electrical-submersible and surface pumps, sensors and gauges, and production chemicals; subsea offerings include trees, controls, manifolds, flexible pipe and flowline systems, installation, maintenance and intervention services. The company also provides integrated well planning and execution and digital and reservoir-analysis capabilities.[8]

Industrial & Energy Technology products include gas and steam turbines, compressors, pumps, motors, generators and equipment and services for power generation, gas compression, liquefaction, energy recovery and CO₂ handling. Aftermarket services include maintenance, upgrades, spare parts, analytics and lifecycle support; the 2025 filing says covered-unit maintenance agreements generally run 10–20 years. Other offerings include nondestructive testing and inspection equipment and services, process valves and control systems, pipeline integrity services, Bently Nevada machinery-monitoring hardware and sensors, and Cordant software. Climate-related technologies and solutions address carbon capture, utilization and storage, hydrogen, geothermal, clean power and emissions abatement.[14]

Examples of specified equipment include the NovaLT16 gas turbine, listed at 16.9 MW output and 36.4% efficiency, and the LM9000 aeroderivative turbine, listed at 73.1 MW with 50/60 Hz capability. Its OnTrak integrated MWD/LWD system combines directional control and formation evaluation, including real-time azimuthal gamma ray, propagation resistivity, directional surveys, temperature and annular-pressure measurements.[29] In 2025, Oilfield Services & Equipment generated $14.324 billion of the company’s $27.733 billion revenue (about 51.7%), while Industrial & Energy Technology generated $13.409 billion (about 48.3%).[32] [8]

Geographic presence

Baker Hughes reported operations in more than 120 countries and approximately 54,000 employees in its Q2 2026 filing; that filing does not provide a geographic breakdown of employee numbers.[33] Its corporate headquarters is in Houston, Texas. The company’s selected principal facilities span the United States, Canada, Germany, Norway, the United Kingdom, Brazil, Singapore, Australia, India, Qatar, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Angola, Nigeria, Italy, France, Hungary, the Czech Republic and China. This is a selected facilities list, not a complete office directory.[34][35]

For OFSE, FY2025 revenue was $3.773 billion in North America (26.3% of OFSE revenue), $2.423 billion in Latin America (16.9%), $2.455 billion in Europe/CIS/Sub-Saharan Africa (17.1%), and $5.673 billion in Middle East/Asia (39.6%). These percentages are calculated from reported regional revenue of $14.324 billion; the filing reports regions rather than individual countries.[36] In the first half of 2026, OFSE revenue was $1.859 billion in North America (27.8%), $1.332 billion in Latin America (19.9%), $1.127 billion in Europe/CIS/Sub-Saharan Africa (16.9%), and $2.370 billion in Middle East/Asia (35.4%), out of $6.688 billion.[37] These regional figures are for OFSE only; the cited disclosures do not provide a comparable consolidated geographic revenue split for the whole company. [33]

Business segments

Baker Hughes reports two segments: Oilfield Services & Equipment (OFSE), serving onshore and offshore oilfield operations across the well lifecycle, with offerings that include well construction, completions, intervention and measurements, production solutions, and subsea and surface pressure systems; and Industrial & Energy Technology (IET), providing equipment, software and services for mechanical-drive, compression and power-generation applications across energy and industrial markets. IET’s reported product lines include gas technology equipment and services, industrial products and solutions, and climate technology solutions.[38]

For FY2025, OFSE reported revenue of $14.324 billion, approximately 51.6% of combined segment revenue; IET reported $13.409 billion, approximately 48.4%. These shares use the reported total segment revenue of $27.733 billion as the denominator and are rounded to one decimal place.[32] [38]

Company history

Baker Hughes traces its roots to several oilfield businesses. Hughes Tool Company was founded in 1908, following Howard R. Hughes Sr.’s development of a rolling-cutter drill bit patented in 1909. Reuben “Carl” Baker founded Baker Casing Shoe Company in 1913; it became Baker Oil Tools in 1928.[41][42]

In 1987, Baker International and Hughes Tool Company merged to form Baker Hughes Incorporated. The company expanded through acquisitions, including Petrolite and Drilex International in 1997, Western Atlas in 1998, and BJ Services in 2010.[41]

On July 3, 2017, Baker Hughes combined with GE Oil & Gas to form Baker Hughes, a GE company; Lorenzo Simonelli became CEO. In October 2019, the company adopted the name Baker Hughes Company. In 2025 it announced an agreement to acquire Chart Industries, completing the acquisition on July 16, 2026.[47] [41]
