The company operates through Human Nutrition and Health, Animal Nutrition and Health, and Specialty Products, serving customers across nutrition, food, pharmaceutical, animal health, agriculture, and industrial markets. Balchem’s stated vision is “to make the world a healthier place.” [4][5]
Balchem reported approximately $1.037 billion in net sales for fiscal 2025 and describes a global operating presence, with about 1,400 employees, 22 manufacturing locations, and eight R&D technology centers. The company was incorporated in 1967.[6][7][8][1] [1][2][3][4][6][5][7][8]
Products & services
Balchem’s Human Nutrition & Health products include VitaCholine® choline nutrients, Albion® chelated minerals, K2VITAL™ vitamin K2 (including the double-encapsulated K2VITAL™ DELTA), OptiMSM® methylsulfonylmethane, and VitaShure® microencapsulation solutions for ingredient protection, taste masking, stability and controlled release. The segment also develops food and beverage ingredient systems and provides customer support from ideation through commercialization. ReaShure® is an encapsulated, rumen-protected choline product; Balchem lists it at 28.8% choline chloride, while ReaShure®-XC is listed at 60%. PuraChol™ choline chloride products include dry and aqueous formulations at multiple concentrations. These offerings serve livestock, poultry, swine and pet nutrition applications.[3][15][16][17]
Specialty Products include ethylene oxide, propylene oxide and ammonia, supplied in reusable, recyclable drums and cylinders, as well as single-use sterilization canisters. Applications include medical-device sterilization, food fumigation, chemical synthesis, refrigeration and metal heat treatment. The portfolio also includes Metalosate® chelated mineral plant nutrients in liquid foliar and organic powder forms.[18][19][20]
In FY2025, net sales were approximately 63.6% Human Nutrition & Health, 22.3% Animal Nutrition & Health and 13.6% Specialty Products; individual product-level sales percentages were not reported in the cited figures.[6] [2][3][18][19][6][9][10][11][12][13][14][15][16][17][20][9][10][11][12][13][14][15][16][17][20]
Geographic presence
Balchem’s operating footprint is concentrated primarily in the United States and Europe. Its 2025 annual report describes sales offices, manufacturing sites and R&D centers in those regions and reports approximately 1,400 employees worldwide; its company overview lists 22 manufacturing locations and 8 R&D technology centers globally.[21][7]
The company lists regional offices in Belgium and Germany, alongside facilities in the United States and Europe. Balchem’s Performance Gases EMEA business says it serves customers in more than 70 countries across six continents; this describes that business’s reach, not the company’s overall revenue mix.[8][22]
Balchem reports sales both inside and outside the United States, but does not quantify revenue by country or region in the referenced filings. It notes that most foreign sales are made through foreign subsidiaries, with the remainder sold through exports.[23] [21][7][8][22][23][21][7][8][22]
Business segments
Balchem reports three business segments—Human Nutrition and Health (HNH), Animal Nutrition and Health (ANH), and Specialty Products (SP)—plus Other and Unallocated. Based on FY2025 net sales of $1,037.2 million, HNH generated $659.4 million (approximately 63.6%), ANH $230.9 million (22.3%), SP $141.0 million (13.6%), and Other and Unallocated $5.9 million (0.6%). Percentages are rounded shares of consolidated net sales.[6]
HNH focuses on human-grade choline, mineral amino-acid chelates and other specialty nutrients, as well as food-and-beverage ingredients and formulation solutions.[24] ANH supplies animal-nutrition products, including choline chloride and chelated minerals, with applications in poultry, pets, and swine.[25] SP includes performance gases and chemicals—such as ethylene oxide, propylene oxide, and ammonia—and a micronutrient agricultural nutrition business.[26][27] The company’s reported segmentation is by business, not geography; its June 2026 interim reporting continued to use HNH, ANH, SP, and Other and Unallocated.[6][28] [6][24][25][26][27][28]
Company history
Founded in 1967 by entrepreneurs and investors, including encapsulation expert Dr. Leslie Balassa, Balchem began in a New York City laboratory and later established its first manufacturing site in a former dairy in Slate Hill, New York. It became a publicly traded company in 1970.[7][29]
A significant expansion into food ingredients came in 2014 with the acquisition of SensoryEffects, adding its Powder & Flavor Systems and Cereal Systems businesses. In 2016, Balchem acquired Albion International, broadening its mineral nutrition products.[30][31][32]
From 2018 to 2019, Balchem expanded through acquisitions of Italy’s Bioscreen Technologies, Belgium’s Chemogas, and Zumbro River Brand, a U.S. food-ingredient business. In 2022, it added Norwegian vitamin K2 producer Kappa Bioscience and MSM manufacturer Bergstrom Nutrition, extending its human-nutrition portfolio.[33][34][35][36][37] [29][30][31][32][35][36][37][7][33][34]
