Banco Santander (Brasil) S.A. is a Brazil-headquartered universal bank operating across commercial and investment banking, lending and financing, real-estate credit, leasing and foreign exchange. Its wider group also offers payment, insurance-brokerage, securities, consumer-finance and other financial services. The bank reports two principal operating segments: Commercial Banking, serving individuals and businesses, and Global Wholesale Banking, covering investment banking and markets.[1][2]

Its operating footprint is centered on Brazil, while its controlling parent, Banco Santander, S.A., is headquartered in Spain. For the year ended December 31, 2025, the bank reported total income of approximately R$75.0 billion and consolidated net income of approximately R$13.0 billion.[1] [1]

Products & services

Banco Santander (Brasil) offers retail products including personal and business accounts, credit cards, loans and financing, investments, and insurance. Its digital channels support account and card management, payments and transfers, and investment monitoring. Pix services include payments, receipts and transfers, as well as Pix Saque and Pix Troco; eligible customers may also use a credit-card limit for Pix transactions.[5]

For businesses, offerings include working-capital loans, advances against receivables, collections, supplier payments, Pix, automatic debit and payroll services. Its Global Wholesale Banking activities include investment banking, markets, treasury and equity operations for global corporate clients. The broader portfolio also includes foreign exchange, leasing, real-estate credit, payments, consortia, securities and insurance brokerage, consumer finance, credit recovery, capitalization and private-pension products.[12] [14]

Banco Santander (Brasil) S.A. operates primarily in Brazil and also operates abroad through branches in the Cayman Islands and Luxembourg. Its registered headquarters is in Vila Nova Conceição, São Paulo, Brazil.[16][17]

The bank reports that it does not have geographic segmentation; the available reporting therefore does not provide revenue or income by country or region, or a regional breakdown of offices or employees. The FY2025 and Q2 2026 reports identify the foreign branches but do not provide separate geographic financial or staffing allocations.[16][18] [16]

Business segments

Banco Santander (Brasil) S.A. reports two business segments. **Commercial** serves individuals and legal entities other than global corporate clients. **Global Wholesale Banking (GWB)** serves global corporate clients and includes Investment Banking and Markets, including Treasury and Equity Trading.[19]

In FY2025, Commercial accounted for approximately 85% of total income and 92% of net interest income; GWB contributed approximately 15% and 8%, respectively. Their shares of operating profit before tax were closer: approximately 53% for Commercial and 47% for GWB. Percentages are calculated from the reported segment amounts and totals.[20] [19]

Company history

Santander’s presence in Brazil began in 1957 through an operating agreement with Banco Intercontinental do Brasil. It opened a representative office in 1970 and its first Brazilian branch in 1982. The group expanded through acquisitions, including Banco Geral do Comércio in 1997 and Banco Noroeste in 1998, which was incorporated into Banco Santander Brasil in 1999.[21][22]

In 2000, Santander acquired the Meridional group and Banco do Estado de São Paulo (Banespa), substantially enlarging its Brazilian operations. The group consolidated its local entities in 2006. In 2008 it acquired control of Banco Real through the ABN AMRO transaction; Banco Real was merged into Banco Santander (Brasil) in April 2009. Santander Brasil’s shares began trading on B3 and its ADRs on the NYSE in October 2009.[23] [24]
