Company history
Belden was founded in 1902 by Joseph C. Belden and Albert Beutler as a maker of magnet wire for telephone switchboards; the company went public in 1939.[4][20] In 2007–08, acquisitions including Hirschmann Automation and Control and Trapeze Networks expanded Belden from wire and cable into industrial connectivity and wireless networking.[21][22] The 2012 acquisition of PPC Broadband and 2014 purchases of ProSoft Technology and Grass Valley further broadened its presence in broadband, industrial communications and broadcast markets.[23][24][25]
Belden added secure video and data distribution through its 2017 acquisition of Thinklogical, then announced the sale of Grass Valley in 2019 and completed the divestiture in 2020.[26][27][28] Leadership passed from John Stroup to Roel Vestjens in 2020, and Ashish Chand became president and CEO in 2023.[29][30]
In 2023–24, acquisitions including CloudRail, Berthold Sichert and Precision Optical Technologies extended Belden’s capabilities in data connectivity, network infrastructure and optical technology.[31][32][33][34] Belden completed its acquisition of RUCKUS Networks in July 2026, adding enterprise Wi-Fi and switching to its portfolio.[35]
