BOLLORE

Overview

Bolloré is a diversified group whose principal activities are oil logistics, industry and communications-related investments. Its industrial operations include specialty films and energy-storage activities, while its communications portfolio includes interests in music, television and content, publishing, and advertising. The Group’s former large transport and logistics businesses were sold in 2022 and 2024, so they do not define its current operating mix.[1][2]

The Group describes its long-term strategy in terms of diversification, innovation and international development. Its activities include European energy operations and industrial sales in Europe and the United States.[3][4] Bolloré reported consolidated revenue of €2.926 billion for 2025, and its company profile lists 3,042 employees for 2024.[5][3] Founded in 1822, the company has evolved from its industrial origins into a group spanning energy, industry and communications.[3] [1]

Products & services

Bolloré Energy supplies professional fuels including road diesel, fishing fuel, SP95/SP98 gasoline, non-road gas oils and AdBlue®, as well as household heating oil. Its services include heating-system installation, maintenance and repair. Its Biofioul Évolution F5 product is described as a blend of 95% mineral heating oil and 5% plant-based matter; the company says it is compatible with household and professional heating installations and claims 9% lower CO₂ emissions.[6]

Blue Solutions makes LMP® solid-electrolyte batteries, for which Bolloré highlights more than 3,500 charge/discharge cycles. Its Gen4 lithium-metal battery remains in development: the company reported a target energy density 50% above existing lithium-ion technologies and sample testing, while a controlled scooter test showed 68.8% more range with 13% lower battery weight at unchanged geometry. Bluebus electric buses use LMP® batteries; the 12-metre model is specified with up to 441 kWh of onboard energy, up to 320 km range, a maximum speed of 70 km/h and five-hour depot charging.[10]

Bolloré Innovative Thin Films produces packaging films, including food films, and dielectric films used in capacitors; the group reports annual production capacity of 20,000 tonnes across two French plants and a US processing unit. Its systems businesses offer access-control and flow-management equipment, transport systems, tracking, motorised gates and check-in kiosks. For 2025, reported segment revenue was €2,511 million for Bolloré Energy, €310 million for Industry and €105 million for Other, out of €2,926 million total—approximately 85.8%, 10.6% and 3.6%, respectively. These are segment shares, not product-level shares; the company does not separately state revenue percentages for individual products.[4] [11]

Geographic presence

In the first half of 2025, Bolloré’s consolidated revenue was concentrated in France and overseas territories (€1,209.7 million, about 78.2%) and Europe excluding France (€294.0 million, about 19.0%). The Americas accounted for €34.0 million (about 2.2%), Asia-Pacific €9.6 million (about 0.6%), and Africa no reported revenue. Percentages are calculated from the reported regional amounts.[17]

Among specifically identified operating locations, Bolloré Energy operates in France, Switzerland and Germany; the group’s subsidiary list also identifies Automatic Systems in Belgium. Bolloré sold Bolloré Africa Logistics in 2022 and Bolloré Logistics in 2024, so those former logistics operations are not included here as current geographic reach.[18] [17]

Business segments

For FY2025, Bolloré reported revenue by activity of €2,511 million for Bolloré Energy (approximately 85.9% of €2,926 million consolidated revenue), €310 million for Industry (10.6%), and €105 million for “Others (Agricultural Assets, Holding and others)” (3.6%). Percentages are approximate, calculated from reported activity revenue divided by consolidated revenue.[21]

Bolloré Energy focuses on oil distribution and logistics, including storage and distribution in France, Switzerland and Germany.[22][23] Industry comprises Films, Blue and Systems: packaging and capacitor films; energy storage and e-mobility; and systems for managing flows of people, goods and data.[24] The residual “Others” category includes agricultural assets and holding activities; Bolloré describes its agricultural assets as U.S. olive farms and French vineyards.[21][25] [21]

Company history

Bolloré began in 1822 as a paper mill near Quimper, Brittany, founded by René Bolloré and François Le Marié. In 1917–18, it acquired the Cascadec mill and launched its OCB cigarette-paper brand.[26]

In 1981, Vincent Bolloré took over the family company and led its expansion beyond paper. Through acquisitions and combinations between 1986 and 1997, the group built substantial logistics and energy businesses, including SCAC, Bolloré Énergie, SDV, Rivaud and Saga. Later milestones included selling its cigarette-paper business in 2000, developing electric-vehicle and battery activities, and listing Blue Solutions in 2013.[26][27]

Bolloré expanded its media interests in the 2000s and began consolidating Vivendi in 2017; Vivendi acquired Bolloré’s Havas stake that year. Cyrille Bolloré became Chairman and CEO in 2019. The group sold Bolloré Africa Logistics in 2022 and Bolloré Logistics in 2024. In December 2024, Vivendi was demerged into Canal+, Havas and Louis Hachette Group, and Bolloré lost control of Vivendi while retaining a significant shareholding.[28] [2]
