Geographic presence

In FY2025, Boston Scientific reported net sales of $20.074 billion. By reported sales region, the United States accounted for $12.864 billion (about 64.1%), Europe, Middle East and Africa for $3.451 billion (17.2%), Asia-Pacific for $3.080 billion (15.3%), and Latin America and Canada for $678 million (3.4%). The company reports sales by region rather than by individual country.[23][6]

For 2025, MedSurg generated approximately $6.829 billion, or 34% of reportable-segment sales, and Cardiovascular generated approximately $13.266 billion, or 66%. These percentages are calculated from segment sales totaling $20.095 billion; the filing separately reconciles that figure to consolidated net sales.[6] The company reports international sales as a geographic statistic, rather than as an additional business segment.[27]

MedSurg comprises Endoscopy, Urology and Neuromodulation. Its areas include minimally invasive gastrointestinal and pancreaticobiliary diagnosis and treatment; urology products for stone management, benign prostatic hyperplasia, prostate cancer and pelvic-floor conditions; and devices for chronic pain and movement disorders.[8] Cardiovascular includes Interventional Cardiology and Vascular Therapies, WATCHMAN left atrial appendage closure, Electrophysiology, Cardiac Rhythm Management, and Interventional Oncology and Embolization. These businesses address coronary, peripheral and venous disease; heart-rhythm diagnosis and treatment; implantable rhythm-management devices; and cancer therapies including radioembolization and embolization.[12] [6]

Company history

Boston Scientific was founded in 1979 by John Abele and Pete Nicholas to develop less-invasive medical products; its original incorporation filing was made on June 22 of that year. The company’s IPO became effective in May 1992.[29]

The company expanded its cardiovascular business with the TAXUS drug-eluting stent, launched internationally in 2003 and approved in the United States in 2004. In 2004 it acquired Advanced Bionics, entering neuromodulation, and in 2006 completed its combination with Guidant, adding a cardiac rhythm management business.[32]

Further portfolio additions included Cameron Health in 2012, bringing the subcutaneous implantable defibrillator system; EndoChoice in 2016; Symetis in 2017; and BTG and Vertiflex in 2019. Michael F. Mahoney became president and CEO in 2012. In 2024, Boston Scientific completed its acquisition of Axonics, extending its sacral neuromodulation business.[35] [29]
