Overview

Box, Inc. is a cloud software company focused on Intelligent Content Management, providing a platform for organizations to securely store, manage, share, and work with digital content. Its products include Box AI, Box Platform, Box Sign for electronic signatures, and tools for content workflows, security, and governance. Box describes its mission as “to power how the world works together.” [1]

Founded in 2005, Box serves customers internationally, with offices and hubs in North America, Europe, and Asia-Pacific. The company reports serving 97,000 companies, including 68% of the Fortune 500. For fiscal 2026, it reported revenue of $1.18 billion and 2,912 employees as of January 31, 2026.[6] [1]

Products & services

Box’s Intelligent Content Management platform provides cloud-based content storage and management, file sharing, previews and annotations across devices, permission controls, and integrations with services including Microsoft 365, Teams, Google Workspace and Apple iWork. Box AI adds AI-assisted content collaboration, generation and curation; administrators can use Box AI Studio to configure and deploy agents, while Box AI API makes Box AI capabilities available within customers’ applications.[13]

For content workflows and applications, Box Apps is a no-code tool for building dashboards and metadata-driven workflows, including AI-assisted metadata extraction and validation. Box Relay automates content processes through configurable triggers and actions. Box Doc Gen generates documents from templates and data and integrates with Relay, Salesforce, Box APIs and Box Sign.[4]

Box Shield and Shield Pro provide security capabilities including threat and malware detection, suspicious-behavior monitoring, and content classification and access controls; Shield Pro adds AI classification and threat-analysis agents. Box Sign supports electronic signatures on web and mobile, signer authentication, password protection and more than 20 languages. Box Hubs supports AI-assisted search across Hub content, while Box Shuttle provides large-scale content migration, including permission and version-history retention; Box Consulting also offers migration services.[19]

Box reported that customers using its Enterprise Advanced package accounted for 10% of company revenue; this is a package-level measure, not a revenue breakdown for individual products. The company reported FY2026 revenue of $1.18 billion, with substantially all revenue derived from cloud content-management solutions.[23] [13]

Geographic presence

Box serves customers globally through sales and customer-success teams, and offers Box Zones for local data storage in certain regions to address data-residency and privacy requirements. Its FY2026 filing reports one operating and reportable segment, but the available evidence does not provide revenue by country or region.[24]

Box identifies its headquarters as being in the San Francisco Bay Area; its careers pages list Redwood City as headquarters and offices in London and Warsaw in Europe, and Tokyo and Sydney in Asia-Pacific. Box reported 2,912 employees as of January 31, 2026, but a regional employee breakdown was not available in the sources reviewed.[27] [24]

Business segments

For FY2026, Box reported one operating and reportable segment, encompassing its consolidated business; it does not disclose separate segment revenue contributions. Accordingly, the single reported segment represents approximately 100% of consolidated revenue, rather than a separately itemized business line.[26][11]

The segment’s focus is Box’s Intelligent Content Management platform, which supports secure content management throughout the content lifecycle. Box Platform and its APIs are described as product capabilities, not separate reportable segments.[1][30] [26]

Company history

Box was founded in 2005 by Aaron Levie and Dylan Smith. In 2014, the company launched Box Notes, a collaborative note-taking product, and in January 2015 it completed its initial public offering, pricing shares at $14 each.[31]

In 2021, Box announced the acquisition of e-signature provider SignRequest and introduced Box Sign. The company announced Box AI in 2023. In 2024, it acquired Crooze, a no-code app builder, and launched Box Hubs, a tool for organizing and publishing content.[34] [31]
