Under the new structure, it reports three segments: Conventional Shell Eggs, Specialty Shell Eggs, and Prepared Foods; remaining operations are not reportable segments.[19]

Company history

Cal-Maine Foods traces its origins to 1957, when founder Fred R. Adams Jr. began a feed-delivery business in Jackson, Mississippi. It opened a commercial egg-laying operation in Mendenhall in 1958 and built an egg farm in Edwards in 1963. In 1969, Adams Foods merged with Dairy Fresh Products and Maine Egg Farms to form Cal-Maine Foods; the company expanded further in 1972 by acquiring Ralston-Purina’s egg operations.[35]

The company became publicly traded on Nasdaq in 1996. Among its later expansions, it acquired Hudson Brothers in 1999 and Hillandale Farms operations in 2005. In 2012 it acquired egg assets from Pilgrim’s Pride and Maxim Production, and in 2016 it acquired Foodonics International, known as Dixie Egg Company. Cal-Maine reported selling more than one billion dozen eggs for the first time in 2014.[35]

Adolphus “Dolph” Baker became president and CEO in 2010 and chairman in 2012; Sherman Miller succeeded him as president and CEO in 2022, with Baker remaining chairman.[36] In 2024, Cal-Maine acquired ISE America’s egg-production assets. It acquired Echo Lake Foods in 2025, expanding into prepared foods, then acquired Creighton Brothers/Crystal Lake assets and certain Van’s Foods assets in 2026.[39] [35]
