Chewy, Inc.

Updated

Overview

Chewy, Inc. is an online retailer serving the pet-care market, offering pet food, treats, supplies, prescription and non-prescription health products, and related services. Its offerings also include pharmacy, telehealth, insurance and wellness services, and veterinary care.[1]

The company is primarily focused on the U.S. market, with fulfillment centers in the United States and Canada. Chewy states its mission is “to be the most trusted and convenient destination for pet parents and partners everywhere.” [4][5] In fiscal 2025, the 52 weeks ended February 1, 2026, Chewy reported net sales of $12.6015 billion and approximately 18,000 full- and part-time employees as of that date.[6][7] [1]

Products & services

Chewy offers pet food and veterinary diets; non-perishable supplies; prescription and non-prescription pet-health products; and specialty products for animals including horses, birds, and fish. Its private-label brands include Frisco for hard goods; American Journey and Tylee’s for consumables; Vibeful for wellness products such as multivitamins and hip-and-joint supplements; and Get Real, a Chewy-exclusive dog-food brand launched in 2025.[2][8] The company’s FY2025 filing described an assortment of approximately 190,000 products and services from about 4,000 partner brands.[4]

Services include Autoship, which automates recurring orders, payment, and delivery; Chewy Pharmacy, including prescription and compounded medications; and Connect with a Vet, which provides access to licensed veterinarians or veterinary technicians.[9][10] Chewy Vet Care clinics offer routine appointments, urgent care, and surgery, supported by a custom-built technology platform.[3] PracticeHub integrates with veterinary practice-management software and supports preapproved prescriptions, while Chewy handles inventory, fulfillment, shipping, and customer service.[10] [2]

Geographic presence

Chewy serves customers in the United States and Canada; it launched its Canadian business in 2023. The company’s FY2025 filing does not provide revenue shares by country or region.[11]

Its corporate co-headquarters are in Plantation, Florida, and Boston, Massachusetts, with its principal executive office in Plantation. Chewy leases fulfillment centers, corporate offices, customer service centers, and veterinary clinics across North America; its filing describes U.S. fulfillment-center locations as supporting overnight delivery to more than 80% of the U.S. population and two-day delivery to almost 100%.[13]

Chewy reported approximately 18,000 full- and part-time employees as of February 1, 2026, but did not disclose their geographic distribution.[7] [11]

Business segments

Chewy, Inc. reports one operating segment, which is also its sole reportable segment; it does not disclose separate segment revenue or profit contributions. The segment covers sales of pet products and services, with management reviewing consolidated financial information for operating decisions, resource allocation, and performance evaluation.[16][17]

Within that single segment, the company describes sales across consumables such as pet food and veterinary diets; hard goods such as non-perishable supplies; pet health and specialty products, including prescription and non-prescription medications; and other sales, including private brands and pet-related services. These are business categories, not separately reported segments, and no percentage revenue split among them is provided.[18]

As an indicative channel mix rather than a segment contribution, Autoship customer sales were approximately 83.3% of FY2025 net sales ($10.5 billion of $12.6 billion). Chewy’s definition also includes purchases outside the subscription program by customers classified as Autoship customers, so this is not a pure subscription-revenue share.[9][6] [16]

Company history

Chewy was founded in 2011 by Ryan Cohen and Michael Day. It expanded beyond third-party retail with the launch of its first private-label hardgoods brand, Frisco, in 2016.[20][8]

PetSmart agreed to acquire Chewy in April 2017 and completed the acquisition that May; Chewy later became a publicly traded company, with its shares beginning NYSE trading in June 2019.[21] In March 2018, founder Cohen stepped away from the CEO role and COO Sumit Singh became CEO.[24] Chewy launched its online pharmacy in 2018 and introduced CarePlus wellness and insurance plans in 2022.[25][26]

In 2023, Chewy launched Chewy Canada, its first international market, and announced Chewy Vet Care, extending into veterinary services.[12][27] In October 2025, it announced an agreement to acquire SmartEquine, expanding into equine health.[28] [8]
