The company also presents a separate global product-line sales mix, which is distinct from its reportable segments: cleaning products accounted for 44% of FY2026 sales, bags and wraps 15%, food products 11%, and cat litter 10%.[8] [4][17][5][17][6][17][7][17][17][8]
Company history
Clorox was founded in Oakland, California, on May 3, 1913, as the Electro-Alkaline Company by five investors: Archibald Taft, Edward Hughes, Charles Husband, Rufus Myers and William Hussey. The company registered the Clorox brand in 1914. In 1916, Annie Murray, wife of the company’s first general manager, encouraged the development of a less-concentrated bleach for household use; the product was promoted at the 1917 California State Fair. In 1928, the company reorganized in Delaware as Clorox Chemical Company and became publicly traded.[18][19][20]
Clorox expanded beyond bleach through acquisitions including Hidden Valley Ranch in 1972, Kingsford in 1973 and Pine-Sol in 1990. It acquired First Brands in 1999, adding a broader portfolio of household products, and entered the Glad products joint venture with Procter & Gamble in the early 2000s. In 2007, it announced the acquisition of Burt’s Bees, expanding into natural personal care.[21][20][22][23][24] [18][19][20][21][22][23][24]
