The report does not specify the countries included in Other Areas. These figures are ordinary revenues, not a geographic breakdown of premiums alone.[18][6]
The group’s listed insurance markets include Japan, the United States, Australia, New Zealand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Myanmar, India and Indonesia. The company identifies its head office in Tokyo, Japan, at Dai-Ichi Life Hibiya First, 1-13-1 Yurakucho, Chiyoda-ku.[2][19] [18][6][2][19]
Business segments
Dai-ichi Life Holdings reports three formal business segments. In FY2024, Domestic Insurance Business—subsidiaries conducting insurance business in Japan—accounted for approximately 67.8% of reportable-segment ordinary revenues and 59.1% of segment income. Overseas Insurance Business—subsidiaries and affiliated companies conducting insurance business outside Japan—contributed approximately 31.8% of revenues and 18.5% of segment income. Other Business, covering group-company administration and non-insurance activities, mainly asset management and new business fields, contributed approximately 0.4% of revenues and 22.4% of segment income. These shares are calculated from reportable-segment totals before adjustments and eliminations; segment income is based on ordinary profit.[20][21][22]
In the FY2025 Q3 management presentation, the company also presented adjusted profit under a different grouping: Domestic, Overseas, Non-Insurance and Others. For the nine months ended December 31, 2025, these represented approximately 74.7%, 23.1%, 3.1% and -0.9%, respectively, of total adjusted profit. This management view is distinct from the formal reportable segments.[23][24][25] [20][21][22][23][24][25]
Company history
Dai-ichi was founded in 1902 by Tsuneta Yano as Japan’s first mutual life insurer. In 2010, it converted from a mutual company to a joint-stock corporation and listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.[26][27]
The company began expanding overseas in the 2000s: its Vietnamese subsidiary began operations in 2007, and it expanded in Australia through its investment in TOWER Australia, later renamed TAL. It agreed to acquire U.S.-based Protective Life in 2014 and completed the acquisition in 2015.[28][29][30]
On October 1, 2016, the group reorganized as a holding company, adopting the name Dai-ichi Life Holdings, Inc. It expanded in New Zealand with the 2022 acquisition of Partners Group Holdings, parent of Partners Life, and in Japan when Benefit One became a wholly owned subsidiary in 2024. On April 1, 2026, the company changed its trade name to Daiichi Life Group, Inc.[31][32][33][34] [26][27][28][29][30][31][32][33][34]
