Company history

Davide Campari’s company history dates to 1860, when Gaspare Campari created the bitter red aperitif that became the namesake brand. He opened Caffè Campari in Milan in 1867; production moved to a dedicated plant in Sesto San Giovanni in 1904. In 1932, the company introduced Campari Soda, a single-serve version designed by Fortunato Depero.[7][27]

The company began expanding beyond its original aperitif business through acquisitions, starting with the Italian BolsWessanen business in 1995, which brought brands including Cynar and Crodino into its portfolio. It acquired Cinzano in 1999, listed on the Italian Stock Exchange in 2001, and acquired SKYY Spirits in 2002. Further additions included Aperol in 2003 and Wild Turkey in 2009, extending its portfolio into aperitifs, vodka and American whiskey.[28]

In 2014, Campari acquired Averna and Forty Creek; subsequent major additions included Grand Marnier in 2016, Bulldog Gin in 2017 and Champagne Lallier in 2020. In July 2020, the company completed its conversion from an Italian S.p.A. to a Dutch-law N.V. and moved its registered office to Amsterdam. It acquired Wilderness Trail in 2022 and completed the acquisition of Courvoisier in 2024.[33] [39]
