Business segments
Demant’s FY2025 business-area breakdown comprises Hearing Aids, Hearing Care and Diagnostics. By reported revenue mix, Hearing Aids (external revenue) contributed approximately 43% (about DKK 9.9bn), Hearing Care 47% (about DKK 10.8bn), and Diagnostics 10% (about DKK 2.3bn), based on group revenue of DKK 22,971m. The percentages are rounded, so the implied amounts are approximate.[22] Hearing Aids covers the company’s hearing-aid products and brands, including Oticon, Bernafon and Philips.[8][23] Hearing Care comprises retail hearing-care operations and clinics, while Diagnostics focuses on audiological and hearing-instrument fitting equipment, as well as balance-related products and associated services.[24][25]
These are the continuing business areas in Demant’s operating model. The company also discloses revenue geographically, but those regional disclosures are not additional business areas.[26][27] Communications (EPOS) and Hearing Implants (Oticon Medical) were reported as former businesses recognized as discontinued operations, rather than part of the FY2025 continuing business-area mix.[28] [22][8][23][24][25][26][27][28]
Company history
Demant traces its origins to 1904, when Hans Demant began the business after selling the family’s first hearing aid on 8 June. In 1957, William Demant and his wife donated the family’s shares to the Oticon Foundation, establishing its long-term ownership role.[29][30]
From the mid-1990s, the company broadened beyond hearing aids through additions including Bernafon and MAICO and its stock-market listing; in 2000 it added Interacoustics and hearing-care clinic businesses.[31][32] Demant entered the headset business through a joint venture with Sennheiser in 2003, later operating that business as EPOS.[33] It acquired a controlling stake in hearing-care retailer Audika in 2015, and Oticon launched its Opn hearing-aid platform in 2016.[29][31] Søren Nielsen became President and CEO in 2017.[29]
In 2019, Demant introduced EPOS as its high-end audio-solutions business.[33] Oticon launched Intent in 2024, a hearing aid featuring user-intent sensors.[34][35] Demant agreed to sell Oticon Medical in 2025 and completed the divestment on 31 March 2026, ending its hearing-implants business area.[36][17] The acquisition of hearing-care retailer KIND, agreed in 2025, closed on 1 December that year.[37][38] [34][35][37][38][29][30][31][32][33][36][17]
