EMCOR Group primarily delivers electrical and mechanical construction and facilities services rather than branded products. Electrical work includes the design, installation, start-up, operation and maintenance of power generation, transmission and distribution systems; generators, UPS, transformers, switchgear and controls; lighting, fire alarms, security, process controls and communications systems. Its mechanical services include HVAC and refrigeration, plumbing and process piping, fire protection, clean-room ventilation, filtration, and water and wastewater treatment. The company also works on renewable-energy and electric-vehicle-charging systems.[2]

Facilities offerings include building-system maintenance and retrofits, building automation, energy-efficiency upgrades, facility operations and management, janitorial and floor-care services, landscaping and snow removal, and technical diagnostics. Industrial services include refinery and petrochemical turnarounds, process-unit maintenance and construction, instrumentation and controls, welding and fabrication, and repairs to heaters, boilers, vessels and other process equipment. EMCOR also designs and manufactures engineered shell-and-tube heat exchangers and provides their repair, cleaning and servicing.[22]

In fiscal 2025, electrical and mechanical construction operations generated approximately 72% of revenue, building services approximately 21%, and industrial services approximately 7%. Electrical work represented about 42% of electrical and mechanical construction revenue, with mechanical work accounting for the remainder.[35] [2]

Company history

EMCOR Group’s corporate lineage includes Jamaica Water Supply Company, established in 1966, but the Delaware corporation that became EMCOR was formed in 1987 to continue the business of JWP Inc. After JWP’s Chapter 11 reorganization, the company emerged in December 1994 doing business as EMCOR Group, with a renewed focus on mechanical and electrical construction and services.[46]

The company expanded through acquisitions, including 19 Comfort Systems USA subsidiaries in 2002, industrial heat-exchanger services company Ohmstede in 2007, and government-infrastructure contractor Harry Pepper & Associates in 2010. In 2016, it acquired Ardent Services and Rabalais Constructors, broadening its industrial electrical and instrumentation capabilities.[49]

Frank T. MacInnis served as chief executive officer from 1994 until 2011, when Anthony J. Guzzi succeeded him; Guzzi became chairman in 2018. In 2025, EMCOR completed its acquisition of Miller Electric Company and sold EMCOR UK, marking a significant addition to and subsequent reshaping of its operations.[53] [57]
