Overview

Roblox Corp. operates an immersive online platform for gaming and user-created digital experiences. Its ecosystem includes the Roblox Client, Roblox Studio creation tools, and Roblox Cloud infrastructure, which supports the platform and its creators. The company’s stated mission is “to connect a billion people every day with optimism and civility.” [1]

Founded in 2004, Roblox serves a global user and creator community. As of December 2025, its cloud infrastructure included 25 regional data centers across North America, South America, Asia-Pacific, and Europe, and it had 3,065 full-time employees. Revenue was $4.9 billion for fiscal 2025.[4] [1]

Products & services

Roblox’s core product is an interconnected platform made up of the free Roblox Client for exploring games and other experiences, Roblox Studio for building, publishing, and operating them, and Roblox Cloud, the services and infrastructure that support the platform. Studio provides tools for creating 3D environments, animation, physics, game logic, testing, and publishing; its Luau scripting tools include autocomplete, syntax highlighting, linting, and type checking.[1] In Q2 2026, Roblox described Studio as becoming AI-native, including Studio Assistant, and introduced Build, a prompt-based, mobile-first creation experience that generates playable games; Build was then in public alpha in New Zealand.[10][11]

Roblox’s Creator Store offers development assets such as models, materials, plugins, scripts, interface elements, and sound effects, while the Marketplace is for users to acquire and equip avatar items.[12][13] The platform’s virtual economy uses Robux to purchase virtual items and access; creators can earn Robux through game monetization, licensing intellectual property, selling avatar items, and selling Studio plugins, and eligible creators may exchange earned Robux through Developer Exchange.[14] Roblox reported that durable virtual items represented 91% of virtual-item-related revenue in Q2 2026, with consumable items accounting for 9%; it recognizes durable-item revenue over an estimated paying-user lifetime and consumable-item revenue when consumed.[17] Roblox does not separately quantify revenue for individual products such as Studio, the Marketplace, or advertising in the cited reporting.[18]

Additional offerings include advertising formats such as video, in-experience, homepage, and search ads, plus campaign tools and opt-in rewarded video that can provide an in-game reward.[19] The platform also provides text and voice communication and safety features. In 2026, Roblox introduced age checks for communications and age-based Kids and Select accounts with age-appropriate game access and parental controls; it also described Global Chat and Quick Words as communication features.[23] [1]

Geographic presence

Roblox operates its platform worldwide. In FY2025, revenue was $4.891 billion: 61% from the United States and Canada, 19% from Europe, 11% from Asia-Pacific (including Australia and New Zealand), and 9% from the rest of the world. These are regional groupings; country-level revenue was not reported.[25]

Approximately 82% of FY2025 daily active users and 39% of revenue came from outside the United States and Canada. Roblox notes that its data centers, contractors, creators, and users extend beyond those countries, while its office presence outside them is limited.[26] Its principal executive office is in San Mateo, California. In 2025, Roblox moved to a new San Mateo headquarters and continued leasing space at its former headquarters.[4] [25]

Business segments

For the year ended December 31, 2025, Roblox reported one operating segment. Its focus is the Roblox platform, where users explore and share experiences, purchase virtual items and enhancements, and creators build experiences using Roblox Studio. The single segment represents approximately 100% of consolidated revenue; Roblox does not report revenue across separate business segments.[29]

Roblox also discloses revenue by customer geography, but these are not operating segments. For the six months ended June 30, 2026, revenue was approximately 57% from the U.S. and Canada, 21% from Europe, 12% from Asia-Pacific, and 10% from the rest of the world.[31] [29]

Company history

Roblox Corporation was incorporated in Delaware in March 2004; founders David Baszucki and Erik Cassel established Roblox as a platform for user-created 3D experiences in 2006.[32] The company expanded beyond desktop with an iOS app in 2012 and an Android app in 2014, followed by its Xbox One launch in 2016.[35]

In 2020, Roblox acquired Imbellus and Loom.ai, whose technology was intended to support more expressive avatars.[39][40] In 2021, it acquired Guilded, a platform for gaming communities, and completed a direct listing of its Class A shares on the New York Stock Exchange on March 10.[41][42] [32]
