Overview
Sysco Corporation is a foodservice distributor serving customers that prepare meals away from home, including restaurants, healthcare and educational facilities, lodging businesses, and entertainment venues. Its core business is selling, marketing, and distributing food and related products, including meat, seafood, produce, specialty foods, and non-food supplies; it also provides restaurant equipment and supplies through specialty operations.[1][2][3]
Sysco’s primary operations are in North America and Europe, with facilities and operations also spanning other markets. In fiscal 2026, it reported sales of $84.553 billion and approximately 75,000 employees; its filings list 333 facilities.[4][5][6][7] The company’s stated purpose is to be “at the heart of food and service,” supporting the success of its customers, supplier partners, communities, and associates.[8] [1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8]
Products & services
Sysco’s product range spans fresh and frozen meats, poultry, seafood, fresh produce, dairy, canned and dry goods, frozen fruits and vegetables, bakery items, beverages, paper and disposables, and foodservice equipment and smallwares. Specialty offerings include custom-cut meat and seafood, specialty Italian and imported products. Sysco’s specialty businesses include FreshPoint for produce, Buckhead | Newport for meat and seafood, Greco & Sons for Italian specialties, and Edward Don for equipment and supplies.[9][10]
The company also sells products under Sysco brands, including Arrezzio Italian-inspired products and Portico seafood. In FY2025, Sysco-brand products represented 35.8% of U.S. Broadline case volume, including 46.2% of case volume for local customers. Portico seafood is subject to quality and food-safety specifications; one product example, Portico Simply shrimp, is peeled and deveined, available tail-on or tail-off, and individually quick frozen.[11][12][13][14][15]
Services include culinary and menu support—such as recipe and menu-item testing, seasonal specials, presentation and portion guidance—as well as restaurant consulting and technology tools. Sysco Source supports ordering and access to inventory, order history, product specifications, allergen and nutrition information; Sysco Portal provides truck tracking and delivery updates. Sysco also offers tailored delivery schedules and uses temperature-controlled transport, docks and storage in its distribution processes.[16][17][18][19][20] [9][11][12][10][13][14][15][16][17][18][19][20]

Its careers page lists operating locations in the United States, Canada, the Bahamas, Ireland, Costa Rica, Mexico, the United Kingdom, France, Sweden, Luxembourg, Panama, and Belgium. The company also says it supports customers in 90 countries; this describes customer reach, not necessarily locations with Sysco facilities.[21][22][23]

Business segments
Sysco reports three reportable segments for FY2026, the year ended June 27, 2026. U.S. Foodservice Operations distributes food and related products across the U.S., including through broadline and specialty businesses; its sales of $58.803 billion represented approximately 69.5% of consolidated sales.[2][26] International Foodservice Operations covers markets outside the U.S., including operations in the Americas and Europe; its sales of $16.042 billion were approximately 19.0% of consolidated sales.[27][26]
SYGMA provides customized distribution to U.S. quick-service restaurant locations. Its $8.623 billion in FY2026 sales represented approximately 10.2% of consolidated sales.[3][26] “Other” is not a reportable segment; it primarily includes the Guest Worldwide hotel supply business and contributed $1.085 billion, or approximately 1.3%, of sales.[4][28][26] [2][26][27][3][4][28]
Company history
Sysco’s origins trace to Zero Foods, founded by John and Eula Mae Baugh in 1946. In 1969, Zero Foods combined with eight other distributors to form Sysco, which became a public company in 1970. By 1977, Sysco described itself as North America’s leading foodservice supplier.[29][30][31]
In 1985, Sysco established SYGMA to serve chain-restaurant customers and acquired Canadian distributor CFS, extending its business internationally. Pallas Foods joined Sysco in 2009, expanding its European presence. Sysco’s proposed $8.2 billion merger with US Foods, announced in 2013, was terminated in 2015 after a court granted a preliminary injunction sought by the Federal Trade Commission. In 2016, Sysco completed its acquisition of Brakes Group for $3.1 billion. Kevin Hourican became president and CEO in 2020.[32][33][34][35][36][37] [29][30][31][32][33][34][35][36][37]
