Overview

Wise Group plc is a financial-technology company providing international and domestic money services. Its products include Wise Account for sending, holding, receiving and spending money in multiple currencies; Wise Business for business payments and financial tools; and Wise Platform, which provides payment infrastructure to other organisations. The company describes its mission as “money without borders,” with an emphasis on making international money movement convenient and transparent.[1]

In FY2026, Wise moved $243.5 billion across borders for 18.9 million people and businesses, with payments in more than 40 currencies; FY2026 net revenue was $2.503 billion.[5] As a historical workforce indicator, Wise reported having more than 6,000 people across 11 key locations in 2024.[8] [1]

Products & services

Wise’s **personal Wise Account** lets customers hold and convert multiple currencies, send and receive money internationally, and spend using a Wise Card. The card can be used online and in stores across 40+ currencies and 150 countries and territories; availability and features may depend on location and eligibility.[1] Eligible customers can also use **Wise Assets** to invest in selected assets, including money-market funds; Wise earns fees based on assets under custody.[11]

**Wise Business** provides businesses with international payments and multi-currency account capabilities, alongside tools for managing business payments. Offerings include invoicing and payment links, batch transfers, and integrations with accounting software; specific features and currency availability vary by location.[1] **Wise Platform** provides payment infrastructure for banks, financial institutions and other partners, allowing them to send or receive cross-border payments and integrate Wise services through APIs. Its services include payouts, payment receipt and multi-currency accounts.[14]

Wise reports performance by service stream rather than by individual product. Its FY2026 revenue mix comprised cross-border payments (50%), card revenue (16%), other revenue (10%) and net interest income (24%); these figures are not revenue shares for Wise Account, Wise Business or Wise Platform individually.[19] [1]

Geographic presence

Wise serves customers globally, moving cross-border money in more than 40 currencies; its card is available for use in 160 countries and territories. As of 31 March 2026, the company reported more than 80 regulatory licences worldwide.[20][21]

For FY2026, net revenue by customer or entity region was: Europe excluding the UK, $713.2 million (28.5%); UK, $586.3 million (23.4%); Asia-Pacific, $515.9 million (20.6%); United States, $365.2 million (14.6%); and rest of world, $322.2 million (12.9%). Percentages are calculated from the reported total net revenue of $2,502.8 million.[22] Wise lists key locations in Austin, Budapest, Brussels, Hyderabad, Kuala Lumpur, London, New York, Singapore, São Paulo, Tallinn and Tokyo. Its workforce comprises more than 6,500 people from over 124 nationalities; a location-by-location employee distribution was not provided.[23] [20]

Business segments

Wise Group plc reports one formal operating segment: the provision of cross-border and domestic financial services. The chief operating decision maker assesses results on a consolidated basis, so Personal, Business and Platform are not separately reported segments. The single segment therefore represents 100% of FY2026 net revenue, $2,502.8 million.[24][25]

The company also describes its offerings by customer and product: Wise Account serves individuals; Wise Business provides business-focused services; and Wise Platform enables banks, financial institutions and enterprises to integrate Wise’s payment infrastructure. These are product/customer categories, not formal reporting segments.[1] As an alternative view of contribution, FY2026 revenue comprised cross-border revenue of $1,257.0 million (about 50.2%), card revenue of $391.6 million (15.6%), other transaction revenue of $245.0 million (9.8%), and net interest on customer balances of $609.2 million (24.3%); these are revenue streams, not segments.[27][25] [24]

Company history

Wise was founded in 2011 as TransferWise by Estonian entrepreneurs Taavet Hinrikus and Kristo Käärmann, with the aim of making international money transfers simpler and cheaper.[28][29] In 2017, it introduced the Borderless account, allowing customers to hold and receive money in multiple currencies; a debit card followed in 2018, expanding the service to include spending.[30][31]

In 2021, the company changed its name from TransferWise to Wise as its services expanded beyond transfers, and completed a direct listing on the London Stock Exchange on 7 July.[32][33] Emmanuel Thomassin became CFO and an executive director in October 2024.[34]

In May 2026, a reorganisation made Jersey-incorporated Wise Group plc the ultimate holding company, with the former Wise plc becoming its wholly owned subsidiary, Wise Limited. Wise Group shares began trading on Nasdaq on 11 May, when the primary listing moved from the London Stock Exchange; a secondary London listing was retained.[35][36] [28]
