WUXI BIOLOGICS CAYMAN INC

Updated

Overview

WuXi Biologics Cayman Inc. is a global biologics contract research, development and manufacturing organization (CRDMO), providing biopharmaceutical companies with services spanning discovery, development and manufacturing. Its work includes antibody-based biologics and more complex modalities such as bispecific antibodies and antibody-drug conjugates.[1][2] The company states that its mission is to accelerate biologics discovery, development and manufacturing through an open-access platform serving global healthcare partners and patients.[3]

The company has operations in China, the United States, Ireland, Germany and Singapore.[4] For the year ended December 31, 2025, it reported revenue of RMB21.8 billion and 13,252 employees.[5][6] [2]

Products & services

WuXi Biologics’ principal offering is integrated biologics research, development and manufacturing services across the drug lifecycle, rather than a portfolio of marketed medicines. Its projects cover monoclonal antibodies, bi- and multispecific antibodies, antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs), fusion and other proteins, and vaccines. In 2025, its 945 integrated projects comprised 341 mAb, 196 bi-/multispecific, 252 ADC, 84 fusion-protein, 48 other-protein and 24 vaccine projects; these figures describe project counts, not product sales.[7] The company also reports research partnerships with potential royalty participation in certain partnered programs.[8][9]

Named technologies include WuXiBody™ for bispecific and multispecific antibody engineering; SDArBodY™ and OMT for antibody discovery; WuXiTecan for ADC conjugation and payload-linker technology; and WuXiUP™ for intensified perfusion and continuous processing. The company’s WuXia™ TrueSite platform had been adopted in more than 70 projects since its October 2025 launch, according to its H1 2026 update.[10]

Manufacturing and development services include process and analytical development, clinical and commercial drug-substance production, and drug-product services such as liquid vials and prefilled syringes. Company materials cite commercial batch experience at 6,000–16,000 L, projected large-scale capacity of 370,000 L, and annual therapeutic-biologics output of 30 tonnes from 2029. Site examples include Worcester’s 36,000 L late-stage/commercial drug-substance capacity and Robbinsville’s drug-product services.[15]

Reported performance figures relate to service stages and modalities, not sales of company-owned medicines. In 2025, revenue was RMB9,314.3 million from pre-IND services, RMB2,639.0 million from early post-IND services and RMB9,460.7 million from late-stage and CMO services; bi-/multispecifics accounted for nearly 20% of group revenue. In H1 2026, complex biologics contributed more than 50% of group revenue.[18] [7]

Geographic presence

WuXi Biologics’ FY2025 revenue was geographically distributed across North America (58.1%), the EU (23.1%), China (12.3%) and the rest of the world (6.5%). The company identifies the rest-of-world category as primarily including Singapore, Japan, South Korea, Australia and Brazil.[20][21]

Its operating and workforce footprint spans China, the United States, Ireland, Germany and Singapore. Company-listed Chinese locations include Wuxi, Suzhou, Chengdu and Shanghai; international facilities include sites in Ireland and Germany, and U.S. locations in Cranbury and Robbinsville, New Jersey, and Worcester, Massachusetts. Singapore is described as a developing CRDMO hub.[4]

The company reports employees across these countries, but the available disclosures do not provide a geographic breakdown of headcount.[24] [20]

Business segments

WuXi Biologics’ latest available official report, for the six months ended June 30, 2026, discloses revenue by development phase and manufacturing activity; these categories are not presented here as separate reportable business segments. Early-phase services (Phases I–II) generated RMB 1,459.0 million, approximately 12.4% of total revenue.[25]

Late-phase (Phase III) services and commercial manufacturing were reported together, generating RMB 4,737.4 million, approximately 40.2% of total revenue; the report’s disclosed figure does not split this category between Phase III services and commercial manufacturing. Total revenue was RMB 11,787.2 million. The two categories above account for approximately 52.6% of revenue; the remaining 47.4% is not identified as a single segment by this breakdown.[25] [25]

Company history

WuXi Biologics originated in May 2010 as WuXi PharmaTech’s biologics business, established to develop biologics discovery, development and manufacturing capabilities. Dr. Chris Chen became CEO in 2011; the company’s early manufacturing milestones included its first GMP drug-substance facility in 2012 and GMP release of a drug-product facility in 2014.[26]

In 2016, the company began cGMP manufacturing at its Wuxi site, initially equipped with two 1,000-liter single-use bioreactors. It listed on the Main Board of the Hong Kong Stock Exchange on June 13, 2017. In 2018, it announced manufacturing investments in Singapore, the United States and Ireland, marking an expansion beyond China.[30]

From 2019 to 2021, WuXi Biologics expanded its manufacturing network through new operations and acquisitions: it opened a drug-product plant in Wuxi, acquired Bayer’s Leverkusen facility in 2020, and completed acquisitions of Bayer’s Wuppertal facility, Pfizer China’s Hangzhou facilities and CMAB Biopharma in 2021. In 2021, it also established WuXi XDC with WuXi STA as a bioconjugate CDMO joint venture; WuXi XDC later listed separately on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange in November 2023.[35] [26]
